Monthly Meeting of the Public Works Committee

Workman called the meeting to order at 08:05.

Members Present: Marv Sollars, Tom McGreevy, Mark Kennedy, Ken Pariser, Bruce Adreani

Members Absent: Bob Stewart, Jan Whitler

Approve 4/24/2010 Minutes

Workman briefly reviewed the minutes from the 4/24/2010 meeting. No changes were recommended. Adreani/Pariser 2^nd made a MOTION to approve the minutes as presented. MOTION carried without a negative vote.

Approve 6/5/2010 Minutes

Workman briefly reviewed the minutes from the 6/5/2010 meeting. No changes were recommended. Adreani/Pariser 2^nd made a MOTION to approve the minutes as presented. MOTION carried without a negative vote.

Approve 6/26/2010 Minutes

Workman briefly reviewed the minutes from the 4/24/2010 meeting. Additional time was requested to review the minutes.

2010 Mosquito Spraying Discussion

Workman stated that the Public Works Committee had been directed by the Village Board to discuss the mosquito problem in the Village. Specifically, the Board has eliminated the mosquito spraying budget for 2010 and there is a considerable number of mosquitoes this summer. There is chemical left over from last year, as well as additional chemical that was acquired from trading an old sprayer, however the product must be sprayed in the evenings in order to reduce UV breakdown of the product. According to the union contract, any work after 3:30 pm is paid at an overtime rate. Kennedy recommended the staff be put on split shifts, or allowed to take comparable time off for the time spent spraying mosquitoes. Workman stated that some of the union employees would most likely agree to this. Additional conversation ensued. Kennedy/Pariser 2^nd made a MOTION to recommend the Village Board authorize a change in the union schedule in order to make use of the remaining mosquito spray. MOTION carried without a negative vote.

Abbey Springs Water Main Update

Workman stated that he had been working on determining property ownership for the land that had been proposed for the relocation of the Abbey Springs Water main.

Update on 2010 Construction Projects

Workman provided the following project updates:

Northshore Lift Station Project: Workman stated that the valve replacement had been approved by the Village Board and he had a few design issues to work out with LW Allen regarding the pumps. The Village Board would be considering the remainder of the equipment replacement at the August meeting.

Timber Ridge Lift Station Abandonment Project: Workman stated that Reeseman’s is scheduled to begin work on the Lift Station Abandonment project in late August.

Lakefront Project: Slated to go to referendum in September 2010.

Pottawatomi Project: Workman stated the project is scheduled to bid on 8/26/2010, with construction beginning in September 2010.

Confirm Next Meeting Date

The next meeting was not confirmed. Workman stated they could probably have one meeting in late August/early September to cover both months and that he would send out possible dates in the near future.
