State Recall Election June 5, 2012

The Village of Fontana will have to conduct an election on Tuesday, June 5, 2012 for the State Recall Election for the Governor and Lt. Governor offices. Polls will be open at the Fontana Village Hall, 175 Valley View Drive, from 7:00 AM to 8:00 PM.

Village Has Two Outstanding Absentee Ballots and No Provisional Ballots for State Recall Primary Election May 8, 2012

The Village of Fontana had 430 voters turn out for the for the State Recall Primary Election for the Governor and Lt. Governor offices on Tuesday, May 8, 2012. There are two outstanding Absentee Ballots that have not been returned out of the 26 Absentee ballots issued to Village of Fontana voters.

Village Board Appoints Trustee Wilson to Two-Year Term

The Village of Fontana Board of Trustees approved a two-year appointment for Cindy Wilson to fill the open position on the Village Board that was not accepted by Derek D'Auria following the April 3, 2012 Spring Election. The appointment was made at the annual Organizational Meeting held Tuesday, April 17, 2012. Minutes

D'Auria, who was elected to one of the three Trustee positions in the April 3, 2012 Spring Election, announced April 9, 2012 that he would not be accepting office.

D'Auria submitted a letter to Village Clerk Dennis Martin Monday afternoon, April 9, 2012 announcing the decision.


Trustee Kenny, Judge Jensen Earn Reelection

Village Has No Outstanding Absentee or Provisional Ballots

Village of Fontana incumbent Trustee Patrick Kenny and Municipal Court Judge David C. Jensen earned reelection at the Presidential Preference and 2012 Spring Election Tuesday, April 3, 2012. Also winning election to Trustee positions were Rick Pappas and Derek D’Auria.

A total of 516 voters turned out and favored Trustee Kenny with 321 votes in the six-person race for three seats. Pappas received 259 votes to finish second, and D’Auria received 208 votes to finish third. Incumbent Trustee Cindy Wilson finished fourth in her unsuccessful bid for a second two-year term with 201 votes. Scott Vilona finished fifth with 187 votes, and Brandon Marvin finished sixth with 51 votes. There were five write-in votes cast without any names of residents written in the blank.

In the race for a four-year term for Municipal Court Judge, Jensen received 259 votes, and challenger Pete Wilson received 188 votes. There was one write-in vote cast without a name of a resident written in the blank.

Even though he carried the Village of Fontana by a margin of 312 to 135, Trustee George Spadoni lost his bid for the Walworth County Board Supervisor position for District No. 9 to the incumbent Richard Brandl by a total final count of 768 to 847. There were five write-in votes cast in the District, which covers the Villages of Fontana, Sharon and Walworth, and portions of Walworth and Sharon Townships.

In a race for the Fontana Elementary Joint 8 School District Board of Education Village of Fontana representative, Fontana voters favored Lisa Turner Laing with 255 votes, and Brandon Marvin received 120 votes. Laing won the election with a total of 336 votes in the three jurisdictions, compared to 171 votes for Marvin.

A new state statute requires the municipalities to track and report any outstanding Absentee or Provisional ballots for the election. The Village of Fontana did not have any outstanding Absentee or Provisional ballots when the polls closed at 8:00 PM on April 3, 2012.

Reek School District Special Referendum Fails by 4 Votes

A total of 16 of the 31 Village of Fontana voters who reside in the Reek Joint 6 Elementary School District voted in the Tuesday, October 18, 2011 special referendum held at the combined polling location at the Linn Town Hall, Zenda. Ten of the Fontana voters voted yes on the referendum question, and 6 voted no.

The Reek referendum question failed to earn approval for a second time in 2011 by a total vote of 183 yes to 187 no, as 370 voters from the Towns of Linn and Walworth and the Village of Fortana Ward 2 turned out.

On April 5, 2011, the same referendum question was on the spring election ballot and Village of Fontana voters cast 14 yes votes and 12 no votes.

The referendum question was: “Shall the School Board of the Joint School District Number 6, Towns of Linn and Walworth, Village of Fontana, Walworth County, Wisconsin be authorized to issue pursuant to Chapter 67 of the Wisconsin Statutes, general obligation bonds in an amount not to exceed $3,900,000 for the public purpose of paying the cost of repair, replacement and improvement projects to Reek Elementary School including projects to improve energy efficiency, update technology infrastructure and acquire furnishings, fixtures, and equipment?” Results Tape
